The Admissions Committee is a global group of senior Chartered Market Technician® (CMT) Charter Holders and Professional Members responsible for rigorously reviewing applications for Professional Membership. They verify candidates' professional experience, ethical standing, and sponsor endorsements to ensure alignment with the CMT Association's membership standards outlined in Bylaws Article 4. This committee plays a critical role in maintaining the integrity and prestige of the CMT designation by serving as the ethical gatekeeper for new members. Their work directly supports the Association's mission to uphold the CMT designation as a mark of competence and professionalism in technical analysis worldwide.

Mission

The Admissions Committee upholds the highest standards for Professional Membership in the CMT Association by meticulously evaluating each application against established criteria for experience, ethics, and commitment to the discipline. They operate with a commitment to confidentiality, impartiality, and ethical rigor to protect the value of the CMT designation. Through thorough verification and collaboration with sponsors and the Ethics & Standards Committee, they ensure that every admitted member meets the Association's strict professional requirements. The committee advises the Board of Directors on admissions policies to reflect evolving industry standards and member expectations. By maintaining these standards, the committee fosters trust among employers, clients, and members in the competence and judgment of CMT Charter Holders.

CMT Association committees are standing bodies of charterholders who steward a specific function of the Association — curriculum, ethics, governance, programming, and more. Committee members are appointed based on qualifications and experience.

Core Responsibilities

  • Gatekeep professional membership
    Serve as the primary authority approving applications for professional membership, ensuring all candidates satisfy established criteria
  • Apply membership standards
    Uphold and enforce the membership requirements as outlined in Bylaws Article 4, maintaining consistency and fairness in evaluations
  • Protect designation integrity
    Safeguard the prestige of the Chartered Market Technician® designation by rigorously assessing candidate qualifications and ethical standards
  • Verify candidate qualifications
    Ensure applicants meet the rigorous standards of professional experience and ethical conduct required for membership
  • Recommend admissions improvements
    Review and propose updates to admissions criteria and processes, submitting recommendations to the Board for approval
